Boba

I got a chance to pick up the last few Pretty and Polished lacquers I've been eyeing! The one I've got on here is Bubble Tea. I kinda got it for the name, cause I love boba!

Have you had bubble tea before? It comes in a variety of flavors, but it gets its name from the boba (the round, chewy, sweet tapioca balls) that settle at the bottom. I suppose it's a drink/dessert hybrid, so you can quench your thirst and satisfy your sweet tooth at the same time!

Boba shops are really common hang out joints over here. People meet up to get boba for everything, whether its to catch up with friends, go on a casual date, study, or just kill time in general!

I forgot how uncommon it is in other parts of the world, until I took my friend Lemara to try it one time. (She's a graduate student from the UK, who traveled all over the States to interview lady sneakerheads for her dissertation on female sneaker culture.) Her reaction was priceless! She was so astounded by the fact that Americans can stand their teas cold, and she compared boba to boogers lol!

I usually get honey green tea, milk tea, Thai tea or hot lavender milk tea, but I got green apple milk tea this time around, because I thought it'd match this polish perfectly. Was I right or was I right?! :D

I would have liked to shake my drink prior to taking the shots so that it would look more like the polish, but my cup had one of the snap on tops that would have totally exploded if I tried doing such a thing.

Okay, enough backstory. I think Chelsea was really on point with this polish! What do you think?

Hit the jump for close up pictures (:

Check out the subtle white shimmer!

Mmm boba...

Thanks for looking!

Bubble tea sounds so gross! Cold tea is so wrong lol I like the sound of the place you go though, sounds fun. The polish is so cute I'll have to invest one day :P, I love the photographs you've taken!

Chelsea should spend some time in the hot and humid south with no A/C so she will understand why Americans prefer their teas cold.

Looks like there's some texture to this polish?

Holy freaking goodness I want this polish! I've also been dying to try bubble tea, thinking I'm going to buy some tapioca balls at my asian market and try it myself!

You're tea and nails are the perfect match made in heaven! I haven't had Bubble Tea yet, which is shameful, because they are every where I am on the east coast haha.

ZOMG I love boba!! I saw the title and thought, oooh I want some bubble tea, and then that's what the post is about. And I, personally, would have loved to see an after shaken shot with the everywhere. It would have been very artistic! =) Hope it tasted as good as it looks!

Ahhh...bubble tea!!! This post of yours is totally making me crave for bubble tea like crazy, but they don't really have good bubble tea shops here in South Korea (from what I've heard) or at least not in the city I'm in atm. :(

Anyways, I really like your boba nails...they are soo cute and they really match your boba drink! :D

Wow, that bubble tea is just like the polish! I love bubble tea. I think I just want the glitter in this polish, though... imagine the jelly sandwiches.

@ gnarly nails: they do have one for thai iced tea! the first time i tried boba, i actually went for it in thai iced tea (:

@ miss blue: thank you! have you tried milk tea w/boba, grass tea, and pudding all together? that's pretty bomb too!!

@ stephanie: thanks!! good to know there are so many boba lovers out there :D

@ abbienail: LOL they also serve hot teas without boba at the shops i mentioned. and thank you (:

@ jenni: mm i'm not sure what you mean by texture. it's got one of those sheer, runny creme bases. i say it's creme cause it's got a milky tone, and jellies are more translucent imo. it also has white shimmer and of course, the black glitter (:

@ alexis: yesss you need to! i hope the place you go to makes it well, that can really affect your experience. especially if it's your first time!!

@ something polished: haha thanks! maybe you'll get around to it someday :D

@ banny: haha yeah ikr! and thank you :D

@ mzcherrie: thanks!

@ kaki: LOL whoa, it's like i totally pre-read your mind! yeah that would have been pretty cool. i wish the place had one of the seal-able lids so i could have done that shot, i had it all planned out for my post before i went out to buy the drink too!

@ madeline: mmm i could use some of that right now! thanks (:

@ tough nails: thanks!

@ esme: hahahah yessss, it's quite addicting! glad you were able to spread the awesome that is boba (:

@ pearlie: awww that's such a bummer! i hope you can find a good place to satisfy your craving one of these days!

@ criminal nails: LOL i can imagine, if it's your first time seeing it! it doesn't look very appealing, that's for sure!

@ msodapop: LOL!! and ty, yay for indies (:

@ rita: thank you

@ lacquerlust: haha thanks! that's what i was going for.

@ ana: yeah, the simplicity of the white shimmer and black glitters is really awesome. wish it came in more base colors!

Honey Green Milk Tea is totally my favourite...!!

This polish is so pretty!!! Now I want bubble tea >_< lol

The Lacquer Factor said...

I have never heard of bubble tea but the lacquer matches it perfectly!!!

Estivalia said...

oooh, I had never heard of bubble tea! It looks nothing like what comes to my mind when I hear "tea", lol. And I don't know what tapioca is either oO

But yeah, the polish totally looks like this! :D reminds me of those new Nails Inc "sprinkle" nail polishes, only I like this one much better :)

I have terrible luck with indies though, they almost never ship out of the US.

The tea and the polish are made for each other! I like how even the black glitter is a bit milky under the base, just like the bubble tea! Love it! :D

Haha, I tried bubble tea once and i'm not a fan, I didn't know what to expect and when those squishy balls shot up the straw I felt very weird lol. I liked the tea flavor itself, but the balls...too much for me.

I love how you paired the boba with the bubble tea polish! I am a huge bubble tea fan, I live in a very small tourist town, but we are lucky enough to have one bubble tea place, it's called shakes.
